Last night I tried going out to take photos of the moon.   I didn't get exactly what I was hoping for, but even with the imperfect photography, I found the moon to be fascinating.  If you look closely (you can click on the photo to make it larger), you can even see bits of blue in it.

I think that for a more serious shot, I would go out to the country somewhere, so that you don't have the bad lighting created by the "glow" of a city.  Even from my back porch, though, the moon is pretty incredible.
